Radon abatement begins with testing for radon levels. There are two types of tests: long-term and short-term. Short-term tests are the most common, sampling the home's air from two days to two weeks. These tests can be purchased at building-supply stores and cost less than $20. Long-term testing is more accurate, and is performed by licensed radon abatement professionals. Long-term testing samples the air for 90 days or longer. Results on both types of tests are available within a few weeks of the test's end-date.
